Health & Safety Policy

Keeping children healthy and safe every day β€” our standards for hygiene, illness, emergencies, food, and a secure environment.

School: The Chrysalis Early Childhood School Location: Lekki Phase 1, Lagos Effective: January 2025

A healthy child is a happy learner. The Chrysalis maintains high standards of health, hygiene, and safety so that every child learns and plays in a clean, secure, and well-cared-for environment.

01

A Safe Environment

We keep our premises safe through:

  • Daily safety checks of all indoor and outdoor areas
  • Age-appropriate, well-maintained equipment and furniture
  • Secure entry and exit points, monitored at all times
  • Safe storage of cleaning materials and anything hazardous, out of children's reach
02

Hygiene & Cleanliness

Good hygiene protects everyone. Our routines include:

  • Regular handwashing β€” before meals, after toilet use, and after play
  • Daily cleaning and disinfection of surfaces, toys, and equipment
  • Clean, well-maintained toilet and nappy-changing facilities
  • Individual bedding and personal items where applicable
03

Illness & Sick Children

To protect all children, we ask that unwell children stay at home. A child should not attend school if they have:

  • A fever, or have had one in the last 24 hours
  • Vomiting or diarrhoea
  • A contagious infection or rash
  • Any condition that means they cannot comfortably take part in the day

If a child becomes unwell during the day, we will make them comfortable and contact parents to collect them promptly.

Please inform us of any infectious illness so we can take steps to protect other children and families.
04

Medication

Where a child needs medication during the day, we ask parents to:

  • Provide written consent and clear dosage instructions
  • Supply medication in its original, labelled packaging
  • Inform us of any allergies or ongoing conditions

All medication is stored securely and administered only by designated, trained staff, with a written record kept.

05

Allergies & Medical Conditions

At enrolment, parents inform us of any allergies, dietary needs, or medical conditions. We keep clear records, brief relevant staff, and take every precaution to keep affected children safe β€” especially around food.

06

Food & Nutrition

We encourage healthy, balanced eating. Meals and snacks are prepared and served with care for hygiene and nutrition. We accommodate dietary and religious requirements wherever possible, and maintain a safe approach for children with food allergies.

07

First Aid & Accidents

Trained first-aiders are on site during school hours. In the event of a minor accident:

  1. We give appropriate first aid immediately.
  2. We record the incident in our accident log.
  3. We inform parents on collection, or sooner if needed.

In the rare event of a serious injury, we seek medical help without delay and contact parents immediately.

08

Emergency Procedures

We have clear procedures for emergencies, including fire and evacuation. Exits are kept clear, and staff know their roles. Emergency contact details for every child are kept current and accessible.

Please ensure your emergency contact details are always up to date. In an emergency, every minute matters.
09

Sun, Heat & Outdoor Safety

As a school that values outdoor and forest learning, we take care to protect children outdoors: providing shade, encouraging hydration, and adjusting activities in extreme weather. We ask parents to provide sun protection and appropriate clothing.
