Special Educational Needs & Inclusion Policy

Every child belongs here. How we welcome, support, and celebrate children of all abilities and needs.

School: The Chrysalis Early Childhood School Location: Lekki Phase 1, Lagos Effective: January 2025

At The Chrysalis, we believe every child is unique and every child belongs. This policy sets out how we identify and support children with additional needs, so that all children can learn, grow, and thrive alongside their peers.

01

Our Inclusive Philosophy

We celebrate difference. We are committed to creating an environment where every child β€” whatever their ability, pace, or need β€” feels valued, included, and able to flourish. Inclusion is woven into everything we do.

02

Identifying Additional Needs

Because we know our children well and keep small classes, we are often able to notice when a child may need extra support. This might relate to:

  • Speech, language, and communication
  • Social and emotional development
  • Physical or sensory needs
  • Learning and cognitive development

We observe with care and without labelling, always focusing on how best to help each child.

03

Working with Parents

Parents know their children best. When we identify a possible need β€” or when a parent raises one β€” we work in close, open partnership. Together we build a picture of the child's strengths and challenges, and agree how to support them.

04

How We Support Children

Support is tailored to each child and may include:

  • Adapting activities and the environment to suit the child
  • Extra one-to-one or small-group attention
  • An individual support plan with clear, gentle goals
  • Working alongside external specialists where helpful
05

Partnership with Specialists

Where a child would benefit from specialist input β€” such as a speech therapist, occupational therapist, or educational psychologist β€” we support families in seeking this, and work collaboratively with professionals to give the child consistent help.

06

A Culture of Belonging

We teach all our children kindness, empathy, and respect for difference. Every child learns that everyone is welcome here, and that our differences are something to celebrate β€” not to fear.

No child is ever turned away or made to feel "less than" because of an additional need. Belonging is at the heart of who we are.
