Our staff are the heart of The Chrysalis. This code sets out the standards of behaviour, professionalism, and care that every team member upholds, so that children are always safe, respected, and inspired.
Our Core Expectations
Every member of staff is expected to:
- Put the safety and wellbeing of children first, always
- Treat every child, parent, and colleague with kindness and respect
- Act with honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times
- Uphold the values and reputation of The Chrysalis
Conduct with Children
Staff build warm, professional relationships with children while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Staff will:
- Speak to children kindly and patiently, never harshly
- Never use physical punishment or humiliating discipline
- Never be alone with a child in a way that cannot be observed
- Respect each child's dignity, especially during care routines
Professionalism
Staff are expected to arrive punctually, dress appropriately, and carry out their duties with diligence and care. Personal mobile phone use is limited to breaks, away from children, except where phones are used for approved school purposes such as daily-report photos.
Confidentiality
Staff handle information about children and families with strict confidentiality. Personal information is never discussed outside of professional need, and never shared on social media or in public.
Safeguarding Duty
Every staff member shares the duty to protect children. Staff must report any safeguarding concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately, and must complete all required safeguarding training.
Social Media & Communication
Staff do not connect with parents or share images of children on personal social media. All communication with families goes through official school channels. Staff represent the school respectfully online and offline.
Health, Safety & Environment
Staff follow all health and safety procedures, keep their areas clean and safe, and model good hygiene and care for the environment to the children.
Breaches of Conduct
Breaches of this code are taken seriously and addressed through the school's disciplinary process. Serious breaches β particularly those affecting child safety β may result in immediate dismissal and referral to the appropriate authorities.
